We’re off to a great start in Year #2 at Central Academy of Arts and Technology (Caat), the TK-high school tuition-free school of choice in downtown Bakersfield.  We’ve doubled our size with 2 classes at each grade level and added a 9th grade.

From a Vision to a Reality

Even before we received our charter from the Kern County Board of Education in 2023, we’d already begun designing the school Bakersfield's families were asking for:

🆓 tuition-free

👍🏼 safe & secure

🎓 college preparatory

🎨 💻  arts & technology focused

We opened our doors last August to over 150 students with even more joining us throughout the school year.

98% of Year #1 Students returned for Year #2

“My daughter absolutely loves this school. It’s reliable, consistent, and effective. By far the easiest transition we’ve ever made!”

Over 500 Caat scholars arrived on the first day of school this year. A few more spots are still available, so we can welcome even more students, especially into the Class of 2029!

Year #1 Highlights

✅ We acquired safe, secure facilities already wired for innovation in downtown Bakersfield.

✅ We showcased our scholars’ talents at events throughout the year.

✅ We organized great field trips.

  • 4th graders visited Santa Barbara Mission and UC Santa Barbara

  • 6th graders spent time at the outdoor science program, Camp Keep

  • 8th graders went to Universal Studios.

✅ We promoted 15 8th graders as the first members of Caat’s Class of 2029.

What’s New in Year #2?

  • Every Caat teacher returned this school year, and we’ve hired even more great educators and school leaders.

  • We’ve spruced up our 6000 square feet of learning space that includes 18 classrooms on 3 levels. (It’s all accessible by a slide that’ll get you from the 2nd floor to the lower level MAT Lounge where music, art, theatre, and dance are taught).

  • Our high school has its own learning spaces designed specifically for them.

  • There’s new outdoor recreation space to enjoy during recess.

It was an exciting first year here, but it’ll be an even more spectacular Year #2. Don’t miss out!
