When Bakersfield families told us they wanted a technology-rich education for their children, the Central Academy of Arts and Technology (Caat), the only TK-9th grade tuition-free school of choice in the city, responded and designed a program that integrates technology into learning at all grade levels. Scholars are not only becoming tech savvy, they are building the skills they’ll need to become 21st century problem-solvers.
At Caat Learning Goes Beyond Screen Time
Studies confirm that using technology appropriately in the classroom enhances learning.
“Utilizing different types of technology in the classroom, creates learners who are actively engaged with learning objectives. The implementation of technology also creates pathways for differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of students as individual learners within a broader classroom climate.”
Caat classes are not virtual. Our scholars take seats in classrooms where we use digital tools to personalize learning and expand opportunities for innovation. Our scholars are building foundational skills at their own pace. During our daily Genius Hour, they receive additional support through high dose tutoring and extended learning.
Technology is Empowering

At Caat, technology empowers our scholars with interactive, engaging learning that develops:
✅ Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
✅ Digital literacy
✅ Communication
✅ Creativity
✅ Collaboration
Technology also enriches our focus on the arts by opening up new opportunities for our scholars to express themselves. In addition to seven electives in classical art, we offer media classes including film, photography, and journalism and these:
Coding
Graphic & web design
Robotics
Science camp
Gaming
We even compete with technology – in our popular eSports teams in the middle and high schools.
At Caat we’re preparing our scholars with the future-ready skills they’ll need for success in college and career. It’s not too late to apply for the 2025-2026 school year. A few spaces are still available.
