Research shows that a majority of California’s low-income students express a desire to go to college. At Central Academy of Arts and Technology, the tuition-free TK-high school of choice in downtown Bakersfield, we’re preparing all our scholars for college from Day #1.
From Day #1 to Graduation
“It's our goal for 100% of our students to be accepted into a 4-year university by the end of their time with us.”

Caat is committed to ensuring that every scholar enters college fully prepared. We introduce the vision for higher ed starting in TK.
- Every class at every grade level is named for a university like USC, CSUB, UCLA, and even Boston College!
- Each homeroom picks a university to research and then adopts that school’s mascot as their own.
- Visits to college campuses are tied to every field trip we offer.
Beginning in 9th grade, scholars and their families work with our college counseling partner, March Consulting. From financial planning to college searches, essay coaching, and application crafting, the March Consulting team brings us years of proven success helping students reach their goals.
This valuable service is offered FREE to all Caat families.

Scholars are exploring all the options for their futures and setting their sights on bachelor’s degrees, graduate school, and fulfilling careers. They’re getting a head start at Bakersfield College and moving on to Cal State Bakersfield, too!
And because it’s been proven that an early focus on college readiness puts students on track to apply to and succeed in postsecondary education, we teach our scholars about real life college experiences like
- Time, money, and stress management
- Navigating bureaucracies
- Adaptability skills
- Self-advocacy
- Social networking
The Class of 2029 will be our first to attend college after graduating from Caat. It’s not too late to join them. We’ve got a spot for you. Transfers welcome!
